Hi, I’m Gencay — a Brussels-based video editor and motion designer with a love for turning pixels into stories. Over the years, I’ve worked as a Post-Production Supervisor on campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands, making sure every frame earns its place on screen.

These days, I spend most of my time creating eye-catching marketing creatives for vertical screens — yes, the kind you can’t help but watch while scrolling on your phone. I lead a team in the mobile app industry that’s obsessed with making the most creative ads you’ll see in your feed (the ones you actually don’t skip… hopefully).

When I’m not fine-tuning animations or color grading until the coffee runs out, you’ll probably find me exploring the streets of Brussels, looking for my next visual idea — or just a really good espresso.

My journey started in 2010 when I graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in Cinema. Like every film student, I spent my early days writing scripts and trying to shoot short films. But in 2007, during a school trip to one of Istanbul’s oldest post-production houses, I saw a Steenbeck 16mm editing table for the first time — and it completely blew my mind. Watching editors work with scissors, tape, blades, and pencils to cut film was pure magic to me. I immediately decided, this is what I want to do, and managed to get an internship there. It was right at the turning point from analog to digital, giving me the rare chance to learn both worlds and witness the transition firsthand.

Since then, I’ve been doing my best to honor this craft. One of my favorite poets, Küçük İskender, once wrote the line “İncelikli haytasın…” — a phrase that’s tricky to translate, but loosely means: You’re skilled, you try to do what you do well, but you’re also a bit of a waggish and a little funny. I’ve adopted it as my personal tagline.
